Boys Hockey: South Windsor Takes Down West Haven

The most dangerous spot in ratings? It could just be the four hole. For the third straight week, a team resting at No. 4 in the ratings was upset by a team outside the top five. But it might not be too long till South Windsor finds its way into the top five. Joey Bonazelli and Kyle Benson each had two goals as No. 7 South Windsor beat host West Haven at Bennett Rink. Benson, who also had two assists, helped the Bobcats (13-2) outscore the Blue Devils 6-2 in the final two periods. South Windsor fell behind 2-0 in the first period after West Haven got goals from Mike Troiano but battled back thanks to its depth and the consistent playof Bonazelli, Benson, Tyler Glassman and Nate Waldeisen, who each had goals. Christian Marchi made 23 saves for the win. The Bobcats have the longest winning streak in the state at 12 games and take on Hamden Saturday in what has now become one of the most interesting games of the week. Could we be looking at the best team in the north. Yes. We certainly are.The question now becomes: does South Windsor have what it takes to make a run when it matters most. Should be interesting final three weeks of the regular season.
